ALTERFACT is an experimental design studio created by Lucile Sciallano and Ben Landau in 2014. Since graduating from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2013, Lucile and Ben have worked in tandem on various projects in different mediums. Their collaboration has culminated in the creation of Alterfact Studio, a platform through which to conduct critical research with materials and data translated through the manufacture of ‘stuff’.

Alterfact’s practice is currently focused on the use of 3D printing in clay as a small batch manufacturing process. They push the boundaries of this traditionally plastic-based medium, and play with its connotations of utilitarianism and gimmickry, as it moves into a feasible reality.

SHARON ALPREN is a Melbourne based ceramic artist working out of her home studio in the Macedon Ranges. Sharon took up ceramics 15 years ago after relocating to Australia from her native UK where she had a background in Textiles.

Hayley a West  (H.A.W)  is an artist, designer and educator who grew up in Orange on Wiradjuri land and currently lives/ works on Gadigal land in Newtown, Sydney.

She has a BA Fine Arts from UNSW COFA and a BA Interior and Spatial Design at UTS. In the last decade, Hayley’s fine art and design background has progressed to a practice centred around ceramics. Working as a technician and artist educator in several ceramics studios whilst also producing a range of functional and exhibition works from her home studio. Her practice has a strong focus on design and the development of glazes.

MALI TAYLOR is a Melbourne based ceramic artist currently exploring the parameters of coil methodology within her practice. Born in the Northern Rivers of NSW, Mali spent her childhood immersed in the beauties of the Australian landscape, which has undoubtedly influenced her practice.

Mali completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts specialising in object based practice and has since won and been a finalist in multiple awards.

Through the methodical and meditative layering of earthy clay, Mali’s hand-built sculptures hold time, invoking memories of archaic Australian landscapes.

KIRSTEN PERRY is a self-taught ceramicist working from her studio based in Preston, Melbourne. Working predominantly with slip cast mid-fired functional and non-functional vessels, Kirsten’s pieces pay homage to traditional ceramic forms. The bio-morphic forms are initially carved from foam or cardboard before being translated into ceramic, reflecting Kirsten’s background in Industrial design. Evidence of this transformation from one medium to another is kept, highlighting the texture of the foam and cardboard and often exaggerating the imperfections to celebrate the uniqueness of each piece. Kirsten also has a background in Gold and Silversmithing through Fine Arts training wh ich is often reflected in her work.

STEPH WOODS is a Brisbane based contemporary artist known for her unconventional ceramic vessels. In her practice, she explores the expectations entwined with ceramics by opposing or exaggerating them through themes of reflection, functionality, and form. Steph’s distinctive pieces are visually material driven as she uses her fingertips as a tool to sculpt and create repetitive patterns.

Outrageous colour and extreme texture are a constant in her work, intended to encapsulate movement within the form and obscure the fragility of the ceramic.
