pépite's story

Photography by Bri Hammond

pépite is a gallery-like space hosting a large selection of original objects by local creatives.

pépite’s vision goes beyond sourcing and selling handmade items - our true purpose is to uncover new talent and foster a strong community of emerging and established makers, designers and artists.

We present work from a select group of emerging artists and curate a collection of pieces that tell a story, have their own strong aesthetic and that are above all beautifully made. We hope to create meaningful connections between our artists, their works and our customers in a space that blurs the lines between a retail store and a gallery. In doing so, we aim to offer an engaging, inspiring and memorable experience for pépite’s customers.

Featuring a mix of hand-picked ceramics, jewellery, artwork, accessories and apparel, pépite gathers the work of some of Melbourne’s (and Australia’s!) freshest and most promising artists under one roof.

There are more than 60 local creatives represented, with most of the objects being produced within 5 kilometres of the store. Everything is handmade, with many one-off pieces, limited editions and some special commissions exclusive to pépite.

Every object and happening at pépite has been curated by founder Irina Rybakov. Irina is passionate about supporting local talent and has been involved in Melbourne’s creative scene since she moved to Melbourne 8 years ago (from Lyon, France), working with frankie magazine, Craft Victoria and The Big Design Market.

“The idea was to create a space that is somewhere between a shop and a gallery, and really shines the spotlight on the artists behind each object. We’re so lucky to have an amazing community of creatives in Melbourne (and Australia!) and I feel privileged to be able to showcase their work at pépite.”

pépite has recently teamed up with iconic Melbourne fashion label Alpha60 to set up a new home in their Menswear store in Fitzroy.

Oh and for those who were wondering, pépite means ‘a good find’ in French.
