Kindred Forms is a collection of tables influenced by the forms of iconic mechanical companions from pop culture and science fiction history, drawing parallels between their helpful nature and the role of functional furniture.

From the clunky yet charming to the sleek and helpful, these designs pay homage to the anthropomorphic quirks of our favourite robots — highlighting the endearing qualities that have helped them roll, beep, and buzz their way into our hearts. In contrast to the industrial materials typically associated with robots, each piece is crafted entirely from timber (reclaimed blackwood and farm grown shining gum) — reflecting the natural, human-like qualities that make these kindred forms so relatable.

Please choose your pieces carefully as all purchases at pépite are final.

With an overarching focus on flexible design and sustainability, Katrina aims to create considered pieces with responsible material selection, while encouraging small footprint living through the creation of smaller, multi-functional items.

TATTS’ interest in new materialist theories informs the technique of assembling multiple porcelain tesserae or cut and refined ceramic tiles. The physicality of individual assemblage of tesserae creates abstract forms of balance and precarity, layers, stacks, pattern and negative spaces.

Using hyper focusing as a perceptive and making strategy, concentrating on the individual tesserae tile, Tatts considers their relationship and action with other objects and the surrounding environment. In late childhood Tatts was diagnosed with apophenia, a condition where the brain has the inclination to perceive patterns and connection in everyday object. Tatts has continued to develop not only technique but the action of evoking story and kinship between medium, artist and viewer.

ALTERFACT is an experimental design studio created by Lucile Sciallano and Ben Landau in 2014. Since graduating from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2013, Lucile and Ben have worked in tandem on various projects in different mediums. Their collaboration has culminated in the creation of Alterfact Studio, a platform through which to conduct critical research with materials and data translated through the manufacture of ‘stuff’.

Alterfact’s practice is currently focused on the use of 3D printing in clay as a small batch manufacturing process. They push the boundaries of this traditionally plastic-based medium, and play with its connotations of utilitarianism and gimmickry, as it moves into a feasible reality.
