OBJECT TYPE:
Sculpture

DIMENSIONS:
200mm diameter x 130mm
ORIGIN:
Dandenong Ranges - Corhanwarrabul

Due to the nature of handmade pieces, photos are only indicative as each piece varies slightly in size, shape and colour.

From her small studio in the Dandenong Ranges, MELINDA WALLIS strives for beauty in the form and surface. Simple designs can prove challenging, however this keeps her engaged as she continues to search for that one perfect piece... that enigma. She uses textured clays, often blending two or three together. The wheel gives Melinda the individual parts, and her hands assemble the finished product. The process is by far the main event for Melinda, the work is a bonus.

JENNIFER OH was born in the Philippines, grew up in Australia, lived in London and Rome and has recently moved back to Sydney.

Her ceramic work is informed by the multiplicity of her travels. They are in many ways investigations into form and function and how our everyday objects can transform into talismans for modern life. Her work is rooted in the traditional aspects of the craft in technique and construction; although she finds that it's the interaction between human and object that cultivates meaning and it's this personal reaction to objects that is the core interest of her work.

Introducing 'pépite edits' - bespoke collections of contemporary objects, designed by pépite, artist-made and exclusively available at pépite.

For our very first collection, we collaborated with Melbourne-based artist Lucile Sciallano (of Alterfact and La Petite Fabrique de Brunswick) - together we brought to life an ode to the perfect ‘cone’. A simple form, yet so elegant and striking when all the angles and proportions are just right.

This first series focuses on the same form in three different sizes and two different finishes - ’Textured White’ and ‘Vanilla Bean’. Each vessel features its very own variations in form, glaze and texture with no two pieces ever the same. These vessels look beautiful displayed on their own but are also functional as they are watertight and food safe so they can become part of your home’s rituals.

ALTERFACT is an experimental design studio created by Lucile Sciallano and Ben Landau in 2014. Since graduating from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2013, Lucile and Ben have worked in tandem on various projects in different mediums. Their collaboration has culminated in the creation of Alterfact Studio, a platform through which to conduct critical research with materials and data translated through the manufacture of ‘stuff’.

Alterfact’s practice is currently focused on the use of 3D printing in clay as a small batch manufacturing process. They push the boundaries of this traditionally plastic-based medium, and play with its connotations of utilitarianism and gimmickry, as it moves into a feasible reality.

'These recent works have been the outcome of my explorations of my new surroundings in the Victorian Goldfields and I have used materials from various disused mining sites and processed them to use as oxides, slips and glazes, as well as incorporating rocks and clay into the clay body.  The making of this new work has required a deeper engagement, not only with my surroundings but also with my own making practice.’ - Laura Veleff

LAURA VELEFF has been making ceramic work for her label LEAF AND THREAD for the past 9 years. Laura works predominantly on the wheel and creates pieces that are imbued with her deep respect and love for natural materials.

Since moving from Melbourne to the Central Victorian Goldfields, Laura's more recent work tells the story of the complex narrative and history of her new surroundings, often incorporating materials she gathers from the environment.

Simple designs can prove challenging, however this keeps her engaged as she continues to search for that one perfect piece. that enigma. She uses textured clays, often blending two or three together. The wheel gives Melinda her individual parts, and her hands assemble the finished product. The process is by far the main event for Melinda.
