This body of work was developed during a three-month residency at Gasworks Arts Precinct in Melbourne and marks a departure from the colour palette and surface decoration that Jennifer is typically known for. “It was difficult to limit myself to natural hues, but I wanted to use the residency as an opportunity to experiment without straying too far from the formal language I’ve developed in my practice.” Geometry and line remain central to the work; however line now moves with greater freedom and fluidity across the surface.

During her time at Gasworks, Jennifer explored form through the visual language of classical Hellenic and Sinitic silhouettes, raising questions of what happens to meaning when objects or people are taken out of their known context as a parallel for her own personal experience as an individual existing outside of her expected context.

Jennifer Oh was born in the Philippines, grew up in Australia, and is currently living between London and Rome.

Her ceramic work is informed by the multiplicity of her travels. They are in many ways investigations into form and function and how our everyday objects can transform into talismans for modern life. Her work is rooted in the traditional aspects of the craft in technique and construction; although she finds that it's the interaction between human and object that cultivates meaning and it's this personal reaction to objects that is the core interest of her work.

Unfortunately we are unable to offer refunds, returns or exchanges. All pieces at pépite Gallery are handmade by local creatives and most are on consignment. For this reason, we're unable to offer returns, exchanges or refunds.
