'Growingly Destablised' Sculpture

A series of hand-coiled ceramic sculptures built in response to Anya Gallaccio’s Preserve ‘Beauty’ (1991–2003), in which scentless, mass-produced flowers grown for commercial consumption are pressed beneath glass and left to wither. Gallaccio’s show brings into view the passage of time. It interrupts the consumer fantasy of the object as polished, without history, untouched by labour. Built slowly, through the repeated grafting and pinching of thin coils, these forms return time and labour to the object, making both visible in its surface and structure.

This sculpture is an exploration into a collapsing form, similar to the flower wilting and falling off the frame at the end of "Beauty".

gốm maker is the ceramic practice of Thannie Phan, a Vietnamese artist and potter born in Kien Giang and who grew up in Sai Gon & Singapore, lived in Auckland & Sydney and is now based in Naarm.

Thannie's practice is a physical interpretation of the stories she writes about where she is, where she was, and the people surrounding her. The works are hand-built by pinching coils, glazed by brushing or stamping. The vessels are light, the edges are raw and the palette is restrained.

Unfortunately we are unable to offer refunds, returns or exchanges. All pieces at pépite Gallery are handmade by local creatives and most are on consignment. For this reason, we're unable to offer returns, exchanges or refunds.
