David Austin is a New Zealand-based artist of Māori descent. Largely self-taught, his work draws inspiration from mid-century Nordic design and the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi— the appreciation of imperfection, impermanence, and the natural cycle of growth and decay.

David primarily works with low-firing techniques, beginning with a bisque firing before exposing each piece to intense heat and smoke. This process results in richly textured surfaces, with no two pieces ever the same.

“Like me, my work is imperfect — cracked, chipped, with uneven glazes. There is beauty in that. Each piece is hand-built with intention, speaking in a quiet, intimate language. I hope it speaks to you.”

You can select our free Click & Collect option at checkout if you'd like to collect your order from our Collingwood showroom. Pick-up windows are between Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 5pm - please contact us to confirm a collection day and time.

Standard Shipping within Australia is sent by Australia Post or Sendle and includes insurance so your parcel is safe! Your order will be fulfilled and dispatched within 2 to 5 business days.
